and wove, twue wove…

Growing up my friends and I would laugh about the “standard answers” in church. How do you find happiness? Read the scriptures, say your prayers…How do you make it to heaven? Read the scriptures, say your prayers… To be honest I lived by these standard answers- the “checklist” as I now call it. Say my prayers and read my scriptures- check. Visit and teach the people assigned to me- check check. I was told that happiness came from this “checklist” and from service- lots of service. And I believed it. If I gave enough to everyone else, maybe I would be happy, maybe my kids would be happy. Maybe I would be “enough”. That way of living drained me, I felt more and more worthless, and not enough. That way of living led me to some very dark places.

Now I know that my first duty is to fill myself up. This can be different things for different people. For me, meditation and prayer are the most important things for me to do. Connecting to and listening to my Heavenly Parents, bringing my heavy heart and feelings to my Savior and asking Them what They would have me do fills me up. At that point I have an overflow that is easy to share. Days I start with meditation and prayer I am more centered, peaceful, loving, charitable, and gracious. I live in more joy, whether I am on vacation, working, or doing work around my home. This is twue wove.
